Today we unloaded some boxes of toners and sorted them. Our mentor was not there but we had a “sub.” Michael was our mentor for today and he taught us how to identify the toners. All the toners looked the same to me at first, but after Michael asked us over and over again what each one was, I was finally able to tell the difference. Most of the toners we looked at were HP, and some of the series numbers were 15, 61, 96, and 98. Current Mood: happy |

Today we did something different. Instead of sorting printers, we sorted toners! We had to sort the toners by type, such as 96 or 27, and had to put them on shelves. Our mentor told us a little bit about how toners work. He also told us that they contain powder ink instead of liquid ink. He also said that if you got the powder ink on yourself you could just blow it off unless you touched it, then it would stain you. Hopefully, after we finish sorting the toners we will be able to test something. Current Mood: okay |

Today we did not accomplish a lot. We went through some printers, sorted them, but did not do a lot. Before we left, however, one of the managers there told us that next week we are going to start testing printers. I hope that happens. Current Mood: optimistic |

Today we arrived a little late because I had to take care of some things at school; however, no one asked us why we were late. As soon as we got to our internship we started to sort printers. Current Mood: okay |

Today we sorted printers. Our mentor was not around, but we knew exactly what to do. I do not think we are ever going to get to test any printers or even computers. Current Mood: sad |

Today we sorted printers. Our mentor told us that he needed ten HP 900-series printers (which we have not seen so far) as soon as possible for a customer who really needs them. So, over the next few days we will be looking for those printers. Current Mood: okay |

When we got to our internship today, our mentor told us that we were going to do something fun. The fun activity he had for us was to help him build some shelves. We hardly did anything, and I was extremely bored. Current Mood: bored |

Thursday, November 10th, 2005 We did not have to come to our internship on Thursday, but we chose to. Since we had decided to come on Thursday, Andrew had sold 23 Fish Fry tickets to Davis Inkjet and Toner. They bought plates for all of their employees, including us. So on Thurssday we delivered the food to them. After we finished eating we went back to work. We continued to sort through the printers, and that is all we did. We left at 1:40 p.m. Current Mood: happy |

Wednesday, November 9, 2005 Today we were very productive. Our mentor told us that he needed a certain wall of printers cleared up. We worked persistently and finished in about ten minutes before 3:30 p.m., so then we started to go through another stack. I was very pleased with the work we did today because we worked really fast and efficiently. We formed an assembly line to the disposal box because we could not get the box to where the printers were, it could not get through. I stood closest to the stack, grabbed the printers, checked for ink cartridges, and handed them to Josh. Josh took the printers, walked up to Andrew and handed him the printers. Sometimes Josh had to put the ink cartridges or cables in the appropriate boxes. Andrew made sure to get all ink cartridges out, and either threw away the printers or put them on the “good printers” pile. Forming an assembly helped us complete our task, and I was pleased with the results. |

Tuesday, November 8th, 2005 Today was not a very productive day. We sorted through more printers, but did not get a lot done. Also, our mentor was in a very bad mood so the ambiance was not very nice. |

Friday, November 4, 2005 On Friday we could not sort printers because the small dumpster was full, and the big dumpster was blocked by cars parked in front of it so the workers could not access it. Also, Brandon told us that we are doing a great job sorting the printers. He said that we are keeping exactly what we need to keep and we are throwing away exactly what we need to throw away. He also said that thanks to our efficient sorting, he had found some printers he did not know he had, and was able to sell them. I am glad our hard work is helping the company earn money. Since we could not sort more printers, Brandon asked us to clean some monitors that he needed to put on display. We used a cloth, a magic eraser, some kind of liquid, and Clorox to clean the monitors. I remembered that in Ms. Andrew’s class we learned that we are supposed to spray the cloth not the device when we are cleaning computer components. Current Mood: happy |

Tuesday, November 1st, 2005 On Tuesday we did the same thing as usual. We sorted through the pile of printers, put aside the ones we needed to keep, and threw away everything else. Sorting through these printers is a big project since there are hundreds of them. Sometimes, it is hard to get the ink cartridges out and we have to break the printer in order to get the cartridge out. Current Mood: happy |

Wednesday, October 26, 2005 On Wednesday we found some more boxes of printers, and had to sort through those too. This time, we did not stack them, we automatically separated the ones that we needed to keep from the ones that were of no use, and threw those away. Also, one of our mentors said that he was planning on getting us to test computers on Tuesday. Current Mood: calm |

Tuesday, October 25, 2005 Tuesday was kind of a boring day. The only thing we did was move a pallet of computers to the wall, and threw away scanners. We did not have to sort through the scanners, all of them had to be thrown away. Current Mood: bored |
